Hand-Pressed Tiles

2000 – St. Paul’s Towers Art Exhibition of hand-pressed tiles

Ms. Chase is well known in the Bay Area having studied at the San Francisco Art Institute, the University of California, Stanford University, and the College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland.  She has exhibited with the San Francisco Art Association, San Francisco Women Artists, Association of Clay and Glass Artists of California, Marin Society of Artists, Artists Equity Association, the California State Fair as well as several Bay Area Galleries.

Tile offers a special opportunity to work within certain limited means, earth colors and textures.  In many cases I have used tile in a style similar to stained glass, with grout lines substituting for the lead.  This permits murals of any size.  I have used low fire, bright colored glazes called “faience”, with fired clay because they pick up the color of the clay in both application and line.
